Are Your Images Optimized For Search Engines?

[ad#Google Adsense text horizonal]

Here is a factor you may not consider as a SEO tactic, optimized images or pictures.

Well optimized images contribute to faster loading pages and faster loading pages lead to higher ranking SERPs. Another factor of faster loading images is a person viewing your pages may not stay on your site if your pictures take too long to load. We live in a fast paced world today and everyone expects everything to happen fast.

Optimization of images means smaller file size of the picture. This has nothing to do with the actual visual size of the image. Compression of the file size is what we are discussing. Let’s say for instance you have a .bmp image that is 1mb, this file size is way too large for using on the web. The first factor you would look at is the dots per inch (DPI) or pixels per inch (ppi) of the image. DPI and PPI are basically the same and refer to the resolution of the image.  Standard resolution for use on the web is 72 DPI and the standard file formats are .jpg, .gif, and .png.

Their are many programs to optimize images such as Adobe Photoshop, Corel Photo, and a free open source program called Gimp. Their are also online optimizers that can be found by Goggling “online image optimizer”.
