Content headings need to be textually formatted correctly. By this I mean using the proper tags for headings in your content. A properly formatted heading should use the h1, h2, h3, h4, or h5 tag. Google will hive an h1 more weight than an h5 tag. Format your header tags in the  html and all the rest of your styling in a css file. h tags can not be formatted in a css file. It is not a proper format for css and it will nt validate.

<h1>content header</h1>

Formatting text is important for your readers to have a larger quick visual of the content that will follow. It is also important for the search spiders to have the same knowledge. it gives the spiders (bots, robots) an idea of what the content will be about. You should also use key words and key phrases in the content headers.
