Why Is Social Media So Important?

[ad#Google Adsense]

The playing field has changed again. Please take note. This is a VERY IMPORTANT FACTOR in how your website will rank now and in the future. Social networking has become a major factor in how you are ranked and positioned by the search engines; in particular, Google. The Penguin update has made algorithmic changes that affect the way your site is positioned my adding more factors related to your sociability.

Being social is not just about Facebook and Twitter. It includes sites such as Yelp, SuperPages, HotFrog, local directories, forums, Google Places and many others. Interaction on these sites by yourself, clients and customers are what determine how socially active your online presence is portrayed. Positive feedback toward you and your business has a huge effect on how the search engines view your credibility as an individual or business.

Below I will list some of the ways you can become more interactive online and let others help.

  • Write articles that you are cited.
  • Have people write reviews.
  • Use your email signature as a review vehicle.
  • Ask people to check in at sites like FourSquare when they visit you.
  • Leave feedback for others in social networks.
  • Interact on sites like Twitter.

These are just a few examples of social interaction that will help your online presence and enhance your visibility on the internet.

Remember, BE SOCIAL

Website Navigation And SEO

The most important element of any website or blog is CONTENT. Unique content is always going to be king. The second most important is NAVIGATION. A well organized website allows your visitors to find what they are looking for quickly. If a site has a poor navigation system it reduces the likelihood potential customers or clients will stay on your site. Well structured navigation will also help the search engines to index the pages throughout your site.

Planning your website structure prior to developing can help eliminate the need for restructuring later on. To create an effective navigation system ask yourself these questions first:

  • Who am I building the site for? (Clients, Customers, Informational, etc)
  • What do I want to accomplish by building a site?
  • Where do I want my visitors to ultimately end up on my site?
  • When a visitor shows up will they find what they need?
  • Why did a visitor come to my site?

These questions, when answered, will help you determine what type of content you need/want and help you organize the content through navigation.

Navigation does not just refer to menus on your website or blog, it also refers to links throughout your site in the content or articles themselves. These links are part of your “Internal Linking System” and are essential to a well structured website. When setting up internal links think about the key words and phrases people will use to search for you or your products and use these within your links to assist in SEO also.

The 5 Best SEO (Search Engine Optimization) Tips

Thanks for visiting. Please comment below.

[ad#Google Large_text_only]

I will give my opinion of  the order of importance. My opinions are based on careful observation and 10+ years of experience.

1. First and foremost, unique, relevant, original content. Content is king. Without unique content that your readers will find useful your website or blog will carry no weight in the search engines.

2. Title tag. The title tag is the tag that will show up at the very top of your browser window. This tag should use very specific key words and phrases that relate to the individual pages you are optimizing.

3. Website or blog structure. When talking about structure I am referring to layout, navigation, proper css, proper xhtml,  proper html5 (if used), and any other code properly structured.

4. Headings must be key word rich, not stuffed and must be tagged with the correct h tags. Below I have laid out the six proper heading tags.

<h1>This is heading 1</h1>

<h2>This is heading 2</h2>

<h3>This is heading 3</h3>

<h4>This is heading 4</h4>

<h5>This is heading 5</h5>
<h6>This is heading 6</h6>

5. Links Inbound and outbound. Inbound links are links coming from other sites on the web. These links must come from sites that are in some way related to your site and have a decent page rank of at least pr3 or better. Having links from just any site are not always beneficial to your site SEO.
Outbound links should have some use to your readers. If there is no benefit to your readers there is no sense in having them anyway.

These are just some very basic SEO tips but in my opinion they are the most important. There is much more to SEO.

Duplicate Content – Penalty Or Not?

[ad#Google Adsense text horizonal]

Having duplicate content is a huge penalty in the search engines. FALSE!

Duplicate content is information that is the same or very similar to other content on your site or other sites on the web. You can end up with duplicate content on your site and not even know it. It’s important to check your site to make sure you have unique relevant content and your pages are not duplicated. Old content from previous versions of your site that was not removed or redirected with a 301 redirect can cause duplicate content. read more
